The ND-58 bridge is a very run-of-the-mill steel girder structure with a concrete deck. Built in 1985 by Lunda Construction (of Black River Falls, Wisconsin), the bridge was built in a low cost manner without any type of decorative elements. The bridge has modern guard rails, but lacks shoulders.

While this bridge lacks excitement, it is located in a very interesting part of the Missouri River. The Montana and North Dakota state line is only 2 miles to the west. The confluence of the Missouri River and the Yellowstone River is only 2 miles to the east. The Fort Buford State Historic Site and Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site are located in the confluence area, as is Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center. The Snowden Lift Bridge is located about 4 miles to the west. The Snowden Lift Bridge is a famous railroad lift bridge built by the Great Northern Railroad. It carried vehicle traffic in addition to trains prior to the ND-58 bridge opening.

While most bridges over the Missouri River feature a roadside park and boat ramp, this river crossing does not have easy river access. Given the reputation of the area being frequented by rattlesnakes, I decided not to wander off the established paths to get a profile photo of the bridge in this case.
