The current MN-25 is the third bridge to cross the Mississippi River at Monticello. The first was a swingspan, pictured above in a period postcard. That bridge stood from 1891 to 1930. A steel truss bridge stood from 1929 until 1987. Remains of that bridge still exist in the parking lot of a local bar and grille on the east side of the river. The remains inlcude two bridge joints, the deck plate, and a sign indicating where the center line of the bridge once stood. A driveway leading into the bar and grille appear to follow the original highway alignment.
