The Coatzacoalcos II Bridge is a huge structure, one of the largest cable stayed bridges in the world when it was built. The bridge is a key link in the freeway that bypasses Coatzacoalcos, a coastal city in the southern part of the state of Veracruz. Coatzacoalcos is a major oil city, and the petrochemical industry has turned the area into a vast wasteland.
