B-50

WB-50D on display at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater, California. The B-50 looks very much like the B-29, but in this photo, you can clearly see the longer engine nacelles, the air scoops under the engines, and the somewhat pointy nose glass. This Superfort began life in 1949 as a bomber. It was converted to a WB-50D configuration in 1955. In this role, it flew weather systems and took air samples after Soviet atomic bomb tests. The aircraft was retired in 1972, and sent to the museum at Castle AFB in 1980.
