B-47B Stratojet
Whiteman Air Force Base
Knob Noster, MO

B-47

B-47B Stratojet bomber on display at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Missouri. Knob Noster is about 50 minutes east of Kansas City on the border between the Ozarks to the south and prime farm country to the north. Whiteman is home to the 509th Bomb Wing, who is famous for dropping the atomic bombs on Japan during WWII. Today, the 509th flies the B-2 Spirit, a radically different aircraft from the B-47 Stratojet. The B-47 is located near the flightline just south of the tower. There is no public access to the base, and there is no line of sight from off-base to see the Stratojet. As a result, getting base access to take this photo has been a decade long project.
