P2B-1S on display at the Florida Air Museum in Lakeland, Florida. The P2B is the US Navy version of the B-29 Superfortress. Four B-29s were transferred to the US Navy in 1947 for long range search operations. This aircraft was later loaned to NACA, the forerunner of NASA, where it was used as the mothership to launch the D-558-II Skyrocket. The Skyrocket eventually became the first aircraft to exceed Mach 2. Famous test pilot Scott Crossfield was at the controls of the Skyrocket for that historic flight. Crossfield's autograph can be seen on the side of the this Superfortress near the nose art.

Following military service, the P2B-1S was sold to an air museum in California. The aircraft was delivered in flying condition, and was flown from time to time in the 1960's and 1970's. After sitting for many years, the aircraft was purchased by Kermit Weeks. It was disassembled and moved to Florida. The nose section was refurbished, and was put on display at the Weeks Air Museum in Miami. That museum was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew. The nose section survived the storm. It was then moved to the new Florida Air Museum, which is built on the site of the EAA's Sun and Fun Airshow grounds in Lakeland, Florida. Weeks intends to eventually restore the Superfortress back to flying status. It would be fantastic to see Fi-Fi, Doc, and Myrtle flying in formation someday.
