B-17G Flying Fortress
Dyess Linear Air Park
Abilene, TX
B-17G Flying Fortress Reluctant Dragon on display at the Dyess Linear
Air Park on the entrance road to Dyess AFB, just outside of Abilene,
Texas. Since 9/11, the entrance road has been closed, and the air
park is only available to people taking the base tour. My visit to
Dyess was just prior to the Gulf War in 1990. The air park was just
getting underway, and may aircraft were parked in a farm field a ways
off of the main road. The aircraft have since been moved to to their
display locations along the road. Sidewalks and landscaping has been
done to really showcase the aircraft. Too bad a group of Saudi
terrorists had to ruin it for the rest of us.
