Denver Eagle

Taken at “media day” two days before the grand opening of Denver’s new International Airport (DIA), an F-15 Eagle sits at the head end of the runway waiting for clearance to take off. What makes this photo appear so dramatic is the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies. Although the Rockies are about 30 miles in the distance, the combination of using a 150mm lens, and the lack of reference points in the background make the mountains look like they start just on the other side of the runway. The affect was a surprise to me when I first developed this print, and the photo remains one of my favorites today.
